We know reaching out for therapy is a big step, especially in the tender seasons of pregnancy, postpartum, or parenthood. Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions families ask us. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please reach out. We’d be honored to talk with you.
About Therapy at CPFH
What kinds of issues do you specialize in?
We focus on mental health during the perinatal period (pregnancy through early parenthood) as well as family transitions. This includes postpartum depression and anxiety, birth trauma, NICU experiences, fertility struggles, grief and loss, identity shifts, parenting stress, couples issues, and more.
Do you see dads and partners, too?
Yes. Parenthood impacts the whole family. We support dads, partners, and co-parents as they adjust, grieve, or navigate changes in their identity and relationships.
Do you offer individual, couples, and family therapy?
Yes. We provide therapy for individuals, couples, and families. We also offer parenting coaching, premarital counseling, and specialized support groups like our Mother’s Circle.
Practical Details
Where are you located?
We have offices in Houston, The Woodlands and Spring, TX. We also offer telehealth across Texas, so you can access care from home.
What are your hours?
We offer daytime and evening appointments, Monday through Friday. Some therapists offer weekends slots.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We are in-network with many major insurance providers including BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare. We’ll help you understand your benefits before you begin.
What if I don’t have insurance or prefer not to use it?
We can offer a sliding scale for those paying out-of-pocket. Please ask about options when you reach out.
Getting Started
How do I start therapy? It’s simple:
Schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation.
Get matched with the therapist who fits your needs.
Begin your sessions—either in-person or online.
What should I expect in the first session?
The first session is about understanding your story and goals. We’ll ask questions, listen deeply, and begin creating a plan together. Many parents feel a sense of relief just from being heard.
How long will therapy take?
Every journey is different. Some clients come for a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support. We’ll regularly check in on your progress and goals to make sure therapy is helping.
Perinatal & Parenting Concerns
Is what I’m feeling normal after having a baby?
Many new parents experience sadness, anxiety, irritability, or overwhelm. But if these feelings interfere with daily life, linger beyond the first weeks, or feel too heavy to manage alone, therapy can help.
Can therapy help if I’ve experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss?
Yes. Our therapists are trained in grief counseling and provide a safe, compassionate space for your loss to be acknowledged and honored.
What if I feel guilty for needing help?
Needing support doesn’t mean you’re failing—it means you’re human. Parenthood is one of the biggest transitions of your life, and everyone deserves care.
Can I bring my baby to sessions?
Yes. We understand the challenges of the postpartum period, and babies are welcome in most individual sessions. Many parents feel more at ease knowing they don’t have to choose between care for themselves and care for their baby.
Telehealth & Accessibility
Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes. Research shows telehealth is just as effective as in-person therapy for most concerns. Many parents love the flexibility of logging in from home.
What do I need for telehealth?
A private space, a reliable internet connection, and a smartphone, tablet, or computer. A camera is recommended but not required.
Preparing for the Future
Do you offer support for future pregnancies after loss or trauma?
Absolutely. Many parents feel heightened anxiety after loss or a difficult birth. We provide therapy to help you navigate those experiences with more confidence and support.
Do you offer groups?
Yes. We host groups such as the Mother’s Circle—a supportive space for new moms. Check our website for current offerings.
