Pregnancy & Postpartum Group Announcment

Support Group Announcement

During the covid-19 pandemic, out of an abundance of caution, and to insure the health and safety for all, CPFH Mother’s Circle support groups for pregnancy and postpartum depression and anxiety will be suspended until further notice.  This applies to the Monday 12 noon group at CPFH North, and Wednesday at 12 noon at CPFH Central.

There are on-line support groups available. Please see Postpartum Support International’s website for options.

CPFH continues to offer teletherapy counseling appointments to everyone who requests one. Thank you.

A Message From Our Founder

From the Director:

I am writing to you today to let you know about changes regarding my private practice as a counselor and psychotherapist in Houston. After 19 years in practice, I will be relocating to Tucson, Arizona in January of 2019, and therefore will not be personally seeing clients in Houston after that time. Family and health concerns have prompted me to make this move, and although it is bittersweet, I am convinced that it is the best thing for myself and my family.

The counseling center that I started in 2014, The Center for Postpartum Family Health (CPFH), will continue operations in Houston as normal. It has been my greatest professional joy to create this resource for the mothers and families of Texas, and am so happy to see it thriving and growing with a tremendous team of mental health professionals. I will remain as the owner and Executive Director of CPFH and will have two associate directors handling the day-to-day management of the practice, Kim Jones and Lorissa Eichenberger. To see the full list of clinicians along with their photos and bios go to the staff section of our website,

I love this work and consider it a great honor and privilege to have been in practice in Houston. Please keep in touch and know that CPFH will continue to serve the needs of new mothers and their families, hopefully for years to come. I am grateful to each of you for all the support and encouragement to make this dream come true.

Happy New Year!

Sherry Duson, M.A. LPC-S, LMFT-S

LaShonta Edward, founder of A Mother’s Sanctuary

The Center for Postpartum Family Health is thrilled to announce a new partnership with the non-profit organization called “A Mother’s Sanctuary” or AMS. AMS is a group of support group leaders and speakers that provide free support group for new mothers struggling with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and offer trainings in mental health to the community. Founder La Shonta Edwards brings a wealth of experience to her position as the head of AMS, as a mental health first aid instructor, postpartum doula, and mother of five. For more information about A Mother’s Sanctuary, click here.

Beginning in August, A Mother’s Sanctuary leaders will be leading our free weekly support groups for pregnancy and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders in two locations.

The “Brown Bag Mom’s Circles” take place:

Mondays at 12 noon at CPFH North starting August 6th- Location: CPFH North Office
25511 Budde Road #2802, The Woodlands, TX 77380

Wednesdays at 12 noon at CPFH Central starting August 1st- Location: 3418 Mercer, #100, Houston, Texas 77027

If you’d like to check out one of our free support groups, stop by any time! Mothers and family members and babies in arms, are always welcome. You are welcome to bring your lunch too!

Although free support groups are no substitute for professional mental health care, they are an excellent adjunct to other forms of treatment and a can enhance the experience of recovering from a perinatal mood and anxiety disorder, or just a nice place for mothers to talk about how they are.
